SageTech – Leading Sustainable Anaesthesia (ISCF Medicines Manufacturing)

Surgery as a whole tends to result in a lot of waste. 50 to 60 million pounds is spent on volatile anesthetic gases per year, but less than 2.5 of that gas is actually metabolised by the patient - the rest is vented.

This has a huge impact on our climate. Some gases are 2500 times more likely to cause global warming than carbon dioxide.

SageTech wants to remanufacture anesthetic agents. They have a developed a system which captures the wasted gas. The aim is to have the hospital to process the waste it produces.

The ISCF provides a boost to companies like SageTech which need the extra funding to see their innovative ideas move from concept to reality. Commercialising the technology is a big step towards creating a massive change and protecting the environment at the same time.
